Peridot, Loose Peridot Gems

Peridot is a the gem quality variety of the olivine. If you love green gems you will adore peridot gemstones. Compared to other green gemstones like, emerald, green tourmaline, tsavorite garnet and demantoid garnets, peridot is a moderately priced gemstone. If you were born in the month of August this would be your birth stone and you wear a peridot ring, pendant or even a bracelet with peridot gems. The gemstone has a background that dates back to many centuries.

There are interesting reports about peridot, one of these narrates that the gem stone was often mistaken for gems like emeralds. While this is something that should not happen today given the advancements made in gemological sciences, it was quite common in the early days. People referred to all green gems as emeralds just as all red stones were labelled as rubies! Cleopatra was an avid lover of emeralds, her jewelry collection included some stunning 'emerald' gemstone jewels. When some of these jewels were checked in more recent times, it was found that peridot gem stones were often clubbed together with emerald gemstone jewels. In todays commercial world, peridot is substantially cheaper than emerald.

The color of a gem stone is one important factor that influences the demand for the stone. Some gems like tourmaline, topaz and sapphire can be found in many different colors. When it comes to peridot gems, they are always green. However the gem can sometimes be tinted with a yellowish color. The color green brings up visions of trees, plants and flowers it is a soothing sensation and will never be loud or flashy. Humans can never have enough of nature, this ensures a sustained and significant demand for peridot gems. Since there is no bright color tone for peridot, both men and ladies love this gem stone. If you have ever observed a peridot stone carefully, you will notice that the lustre is oily (greasy). This is a technical term to describe the stone and does not mean that, peridot contains or is treated with any type of oil.

Talking about the availability of peridot gems is another interesting issue. A few decades ago, the most preferred peridot origin was in the Kashmir, Pakistan and Afghanistan region. Political turmoil, severe winters and inhospitable terrain, have limited the amount of rough peridot that is mined in these rugged locations. Much of the high quality peridot stones in these locations has been mined out. The final cost is high due to expensive and difficult mining operations. While you can still get low quantities of peridot gems from these places, the volume is just not enough to fulfill even moderately bulk requirements. Much of the peridot stones used in the jewelry and gemstone industry today originates from the Chinese mines. These gems are priced lower than the Kashmir and Pakistan peridot. More importantly, larger quantities of cut and finished peridot stones can be bought from China. This makes it possible to produce both gold and silver peridot jewelry in large volumes. Peridot stones from Chinese mines can often be seen with small black spots in them. These are not considered to be serious flaws and have come to be accepted in the gem stone trade.

Another issue related to the availability of peridot gemstones is about the size availability of the stone. Peridot gems in the below 8mm range and even the 10x8mm range are not very scarce. As the sizes get larger you might have to pay a higher price per carat and also accept, the existence of more visible inclusions in the stone.

Caring for peridot gems is not a difficult proposition, basic precautions applicable to all gems can be applied to peridot too. Peridot has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. While this might not be a very high hardness rating, the gem does not need any extra fussing. The color is stable, normal houselhold items like cooking oils, water and even detergents do not affect the beauty of peridot gem stones. The design, craftsmanship and metal weight of your peridot jewel will also influence it's durability so choosing the right jeweler to work with is very important. In fact, you should give as much attention to choosing a jeweler as you would for, the design and appearance of the jewel.

Who Is Kaisilver?

Having established itself as the world's leading online custom jewelry provider, Kaisilver now extends it's merchandise line to include gems. While there is no shortage of gem stones in the global market, reliable sources for the retail buyer requirements are not many. Most retail gem dealers work with limited inventories, this reduces buyer options. Another problem with these small dealers is the lack of information and reliability when it comes to gem authenticity and value for money. Kaisilver with it's wide network of gemstone mining and manufacturing resources, is the best source for gems of all types, shapes, sizes and cuts. With a support team that is compromised of jewelry and gemstone experts, the advice and suggestions made by the team relate to your requirements and not to fixed sales targets. How To Order?

The process to order gems and custom jewelry at Kaisilver is similar. We do not expect you to make a rush purchase. We do wish that you take the time to discuss your requirements with our experts. They will be in a position to provide constructive suggestions that will guide you to make well informed buying decisions. Email all your requirements to sales@kaisilver.com provide as much inputs as possible to help us make relevant suggestions. For example if you are keen on getting a green gemstone but, are not particular about it being an emerald mention this in your email. Our gem experts might suggest a green tourmaline or even a peridot instead of an emerald. This suggestion would reduce our profit margins but will give you a gem that, is much cheaper and even more durable as compared to an emerald. When it comes to payments we offer some very suitable options. Paypal is the preferred form of payment, it is fair to the buyer and seller. The buyer when using paypal never needs to reveal credit card of bank information to the seller. We also accept direct bank transfers but prefer to do this on a case by case basis. When it comes to online transactions these days, both buyer and seller are afraid of frauds. It is quite possible that you do not feel comfortable working with us at Kaisilver. We sometimes feel a little uncomfortable with certain transactions too and prefer to keep away from them. There have always been fears of processing payments through Western Union money transfers. With the latest fraud reports, fake sellers and even fake buyers have been pulling off many online frauds using this mode of payment. At the same time we do understand that armed forces from the U.S who are stationed in various global positions sometimes have no other mode of payment besides Western Union. We therefore accept this mode of payment but at the same time, request you to avoid this mode if you do not feel comfortable using it. Shipping is done through FEDEX and you can expect a production lead time of around 4 to 5 weeks from the date of order confirmation and receipt of payment. Every jewel is fully custom made and requires the complete attention and concentration of highly skilled craftsmen. When it comes to gems, we could provide faster lead times and this can be discussed for each specific order.
